Last year much of Whidbey Island was completely without communications (except maybe for satellite phones) for several hours. We had electric and water, but all of Whidbey Island was without cable, cell, and landline phone services. Many stores could not do business, It was strange. Some cell phone store workers had to stand outside their locked stores to fend off irate customers. I don't know if you can make a good story out of this. Whidbey Island is the largest island in the continental US, since Long Island is not legally considered an island any more. Water, power, and communications are all provided over a bridge that is over 85 years old. This is the only bridge to the island. There is ferry service, if the weather permits.

It does seem like the world comes to a standstill without our conveniences, doesn't it? And yet, we used to do just fine without it all. :) How interesting about Whidbey Island! I don't think I've heard of it before so I'm going to look it up. It certainly could be a great setting for all kinds of stories. Thank you for sharing that. :)
